1. The Greek vase we chose was the psykter. In the past, this vase would be filled with wine and then placed in a krater full of cold water. This styles was produced from the late sixth century to the middle of the fifth century BC.
2.We created the story of Goldilocks, I worked on the geometric designs in between each part of the story and some of the story drawings. 3. Sgraffito: a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color, typically done in plaster or stucco on walls, or in slip on ceramics before firing. Registers: is a horizontal level in a work that consists of several levels arranged one above the other, especially where the levels are clearly separated by lines About the artist:
Olivia Walker https://www.oliviawalker.co.uk/ Olivia Walker is a London and Barcelona based artist who creates ceramics by using porcelain. She creates the initial shape on the potter's wheel and then adds thousands of pieces of porcelain. They start in one area and spread out to mimic the growth of organisms. She showcases her pieces at different galleries and art festivals around London. The immense detail that is showcased in Olivia Walker's art is what inspires and draws me in. The fact that she also makes connections and takes inspiration from the living world is also inspiring and showcases the fact that art can be seen in any aspect of life. Her pieces take a great amount of patience and attention to detail and her admiration for art that allows her to take that time and attention to detail is very inspiring to me. 1.I think the rod shaped stamp with the carved design (4th picture) will work the best because it has a very defined design which will allow for it to show up well in the clay when used as a stamp.
2.I think I will have difficulties with the random object stamp with the handle (3rd picture) will give me the most difficulties because the design is very faint and it might not be very defined when used as a stamp in clay. 3. The added relief stamp (5th picture) was the hardest stamp to make because it was challenging on coming up with a way to make defined hearts that I could add onto the cube stamp. It was also a challenge trying not to ruin the cube shape when adding the hearts as the clay was still a little soft. 4. The stamps that had carved designs (1st, 2nd, and 4th pictures) were the easiest to make because it was easy to get a precise design by using several different tools such as the ribbon and needle tools. They also allowed the deign to be very defined. 1. I found that the stamp with the handle (the farthest on the right) worked well because it allowed you to place the design in only the specific areas you wanted. Out of all them it gave the most control. The stamps that had a very distinct design worked the best as they created detail and distinction into the clay. The roller stamp (middle design) that I used did not work well because the design was not very distinct which caused it to be very faint in the clay. The square stamp I used (farthest to the right) also worked well because it gave control and accuracy.
2.I think this practice will influence what I make for my own stamps because it made me realize that for the design to show up with detail onto the clay it will need to be heavily engraved in. It also helped me narrow down the shapes and styles of stamps that suit my liking and give me the best accuracy for stamping sections of clay. |
